ANDREA TURNER
Andrea Turner is a singer, writer, visual artist and voice teacher based in North East Scotland. She has performed as a singer at jazz venues including The Jazz Bar in Edinburgh and The Lemon Tree in Aberdeen. From 2001 to 2004 Andrea wrote, produced and performed in sell-out shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe on lyricist Johnny Mercer and on the works of Brecht, Brel and Weill. She has also played at various festivals including: Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival, Findhorn Bay Arts Festival and Nairn Book and Arts Festival.
Andrea studied classical music as a first study singer at Edinburgh College. Her knowledge of singing has been further expanded through professional development at jazz vocal masterclasses in Edinburgh, London and at the Sligo Jazz Project and at Voice Studio International in London where she studied under Nadine George.
Following a period of study in 2018 on the MLitt Creative Writing course at Dundee University and selection by Carol Ann Duffy for her masterclass at Moniack Mhor in 2019 Andrea is now a published poet and has written and performed two long-form spoken word and sung performance pieces featuring specially composed instrumentals by Tom Richardson. https://tomrichardson1.bandcamp.com/album/beatrice-by-the-spey
Andrea has taught singing for the past twenty years and works with individuals, groups, and organisations. These include the Aberdeenshire Jazz Project for the Youth Music Initiative, Artlink Edinburgh, and Edinburgh City Council.
